Summary:
Niven & Cooper explore some ideas that will pop up again in Niven's works. Kath is a modified human who is 31 years old but still physically an adolescent. Exploring Mercury unsupervised, she meets Quicksilver, a human mind imprinted onto the magnetic flux tube that ran between Mercury and the expanding Sun. A much older version of Kath will reappear in "The Terror Bard."
